Annotations let you add comments directly to a chart timeline so you can capture operational context, review event history, and collaborate with other users.
What is the event track?
The event track appears on the line chart timeline and shows event markers aligned to the data trend. This helps users connect comments and events to a specific point in time.
Start a new comment
Hover over the line chart to reveal the comment action, then click the comment button to begin placing a new annotation.
When the comment workflow starts:
- the Current Event Log panel opens on the right
- the chart shows a placement crosshair
- you can click on the chart to drop a placeholder comment at a specific point in time
Place the comment on the chart
After the workflow is active, click on the chart where you want the comment to appear.
That chart click does two things:
- places the comment marker on the chart
- populates the comment Date/Time field with the selected timestamp
Confirm linked data
Before saving the comment, confirm the Linked Data selection so the comment is associated with the correct asset or assets.
Enter the comment
Add the comment text in the side panel. A comment cannot be saved until the required fields are completed.
Choose visibility
After entering the comment, choose whether it should be Private or Public.
- Private: only the comment owner can see the comment
- Public: the comment is visible to other users based on the selected read permissions
When Public is selected, you can choose which roles can view the comment.
Filter the event log
Use the All Types filter in Current Event Log to narrow what appears in the log.
You can filter by options such as:
- Comments
- By Me
- By Others
- Alarms
- PLC Faults
- Faults
- Alerts
- Set Point
Tips
- Use comments to capture context directly on the chart at the time the activity occurred.
- Confirm the linked data before saving so the comment is associated with the correct asset context.
- Use Private for personal notes and Public when other users should be able to review the comment.
- Use the All Types filter to separate comments from alarms and other event records.
